About ADRP-SA
Our History - Mediation Standards
South Africa has had voluntary professional accreditation standards for Mediation since 2010. These standards were developed by DiSAC (for commercial mediation) and NABFAM (family and divorce mediation), and have been widely adopted, and are currently the de fact standards for mediation in South Africa.

DiSAC and NABFAM realized the importance of establishing an organization for mediators that could be accredited with SAQA as the Professional Body for Mediators. They facilitated a consultative process with the mediation industry and other stakeholders in South Africa. As a result 11 Mediation Organizations joined as Founder Members to establish ADRP-SA in 2023, with a mandate to develop a Professional Body for mediators, and accredit with SAQA.

The process of developing a professional body is well on its way, with the full range of accreditation standards currently being developed. These build on the good work that was done by DiSAC and NABFAM, and will eventually replace those standards.

The Association of Dispute Resolution Practitioners of South Africa is registered as a non profit company [NPC], with registration number 2023/153158/08.
